Resurrection Meditation

Happy Easter! As followers of Jesus, we celebrate Jesus’ resurrection from the dead. Without the resurrection, there is no good news. As we celebrate Resurrection Sunday, we are reminded of at least three ways Christ’s resurrection affects us.

The Resurrection and Our Justification

First, Christ’s resurrection sealed our justification. Scripture tells us,

“[Righteousness] will be counted to us who believe in him who raised from the dead Jesus our Lord, who was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification” (Rom 4:24-25).

The resurrection of Jesus is the receipt that the Father accepted Jesus’ death as payment for all our sins.

The Resurrection and Our Sanctification

Second, Christ’s resurrection empowers our present sanctification. According to Romans 6, believers should not continue in sin because just as Jesus died on the cross, his followers are also dead to sin. Just as Jesus resurrected, believers in Christ also resurrected to a new life. Paul explains,

“For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we shall certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his” (Rom 6:5).

We who are in Christ died to sin, and sin no longer has power over us. We can now say “no” to sin and “yes” to obeying Jesus.

The Resurrection and Our Glorification

Finally, Christ’s resurrection assures our future glorification. Scripture says,

“For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ shall all be made alive. But each in his own order: Christ the firstfruits, then at this coming those who belong to Christ” (1 Cor 15:22-23).

Just as Jesus bodily resurrected with a glorified body, so will all who belong to Jesus when Jesus comes back again. Because Christ overcame death, we too who are in Christ will defeat death and rise again with a new imperishable, immortal, and glorified body.

Conclusion

Since Christ resurrected, we are justified, we are being sanctified, and we will be glorified. So we celebrate that He is risen, and he is risen indeed!
