Yesterday, I preached on Psalm 147 (Psalms Series). As I was thinking about a good hymn of response to this psalm, “I Sing the Mighty Power of God” by Isaac Watts came to mind. But I just felt that it was missing some key elements to it. Plus, the hymn has only 3 stanzas. So, here is an additional stanza that our church sang yesterday.

“I Sing the Mighty Power of God” by Isaac Watts
I sing the mighty power of God that made the mountains rise,
that spread the flowing seas abroad and built the lofty skies.
I sing the wisdom that ordained the sun to rule the day;
the moon shines full at His command, and all the stars obey.
We sing the goodness of the Lord that filled the earth with food;
He formed the creatures with His word and then pronounced them good.
Lord, how your wonders are displayed, where’er I turn my eyes,
if I survey the ground I tread or gaze upon the skies.
There’s not a plant or flower below but makes your glories known,
and clouds arise and tempests blow by order from your throne;
while all that borrows life from Thee is ever in Thy care,
and everywhere that man can be you, Thou God, art present there.
Here is the additional stanza
I sing the mighty pow’r of God that raised me from the dead!
My sin deserved the wrath of God but Jesus died instead;
I sing the steadfast love of God: His promises are true!
My King who rose up from the grave is making all things new.
***with an additional repeat of third and fourth line***
Lord, how we long for your return: your praises we will bring;
To God, the Holy, Three in One, your church will always sing!
Forever we will sing!
